Bum Ropes are a great mid sized rope, longer then a 12' foot and smaller then a lunge lead. Made from 6m (20') of rope the bum ropes are a great training rope to teach young horses to move forward when learning to lead, and also if a bit more assistance is required when floating on your own. I love to keep one handy in my float at all times just in case its ever needed. Bum Ropes are made from 12" equine rope, the same as our lead ropes. If you would like a heavier or lighter rope, please email us to discuss.
These ropes have a generous loop at one end to create your "lasso" to wrap around the horses behind, and then a good amount of lead to hold onto. Gentle pressure can then be used from behind to encourage the horse to move forward, while you are safely standing at the front of the horse with no one needed to chase them up from behind. Because of the awesome qualities of the rope, it doesn't catch so when you release pressure the loop softens, and the horses forward movement is quickly rewarded.
The other end has a knot so the rope won't slip through your hand, you can undo this if you wish. A flapper is not included with the rope.
Shown here on Luna with a matching pony sized 8mm Standard Halter, and 12' Lead rope.
We offer a range of in-stock rope options, we do however have access to over 100 different colour and design options, if you wish to custom order a colour, this can be done for an additional $5 per item, there will be a 2-3 wait for custom rope colours.
